The liver uses sulfur to eliminate toxins in one of the Phase 2 detox pathways.<\/p>\n<p>Cauliflower, like other cruciferous vegetables, also contains important phytonutrients called glucosinolates that can help to activate detoxification enzymes and regulate their activity. They also help to protect you against cancer.<\/p>\n<p>According to some authorities cauliflower contains about 70% as much glucosinolates as kale so from that point of view Kale is still king.<\/p>\n<p>It contains antioxidants which are needed to mop up free radicals created during the Phase 1 detox process.<\/p>\n<p>A 100 gms cauliflower contains about 3g of\u00a0 fiber, which helps to keep your <a title=\"Start Your Detox With A Bowel Cleansing Diet\" href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/detox\/start-your-detox-with-a-bowel-cleansing-diet-2\/\" target=\"_blank\">digestive system moving<\/a>. This is very important when you are detoxing so those toxins that the liver has worked so hard to neutralize are not left hanging around in your gut to be re-absorbed.<\/p>\n<h2>Very Versatile<\/h2>\n<p>Cauliflower is actually a very versatile veg. It can be mashed in place of potato, &#8220;riced&#8221; in place of the the grain,\u00a0 grilled, broiled, cut in &#8220;steaks&#8221; and roasted or barbecued, served in a salad, curried, covered with a tomato based sauce or tossed with herbs, vinegars and oils.<\/p>\n<p>Did you realise how versatile it is? I&#8217;ve even seen recipes using it as a pizza crust if you want to avoid gluten or wheat.<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: medium;\"><strong>Here are some tasty cauliflower detox recipes for you to try<\/strong><\/span>.<\/p>\n<h2>Pea and Cauliflower Frittata<\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(A Waitrose love life recipe)<\/span><\/p>\n<p><strong><\/strong>You can make this for the whole family. Simply cut out your portion before adding the goat&#8217;s cheese.<\/p>\n<p>Serves 4<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>1 cauliflower broken into small florets<br \/>\n100 gms fresh or frozen peas\u00a0 (or other veg)<br \/>\n6 large organic eggs<br \/>\nBunch salad onions thinly sliced<br \/>\n1 tsp toasted cumin seeds<br \/>\n50 gms goats cheese (optional)<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Steam\u00a0 cauliflower until just tender<br \/>\nAdd peas (or other vegetables) for last few minutes<br \/>\nDrain well<br \/>\nMeanwhile beat eggs and stir in the cumin seeds and salad onions<br \/>\nStir in cauliflower and peas<br \/>\nLightly grease frying pan with coconut oil or ghee.<br \/>\nPour in egg mixture and cook on low for 12 minutes or more until set.<br \/>\nPut under a pre-heated grill to set the top if necessary.<\/p>\n<p>Optional &#8211; Scatter a little chopped goat&#8217;s cheese on the top and put under a prheated grill to melt.<\/p>\n<p>Slide out of pan onto a board and cut into wedges.<br \/>\nServe with a large mixed salad.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Roast Cauliflower Steaks with Lentils<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">(from Waitrose Kitchen Magazine)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>Serves 2<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>150 gms Puy Lentils, rinsed<br \/>\n2 carrots, peeled &amp; diced<br \/>\n1 small head cauliflower ( 800 gms)<br \/>\n2 tbsp extra virgin oilive oil<br \/>\n3 tbsp white wine vinegar<br \/>\nhandful flat leaf parsley, finely chopped<br \/>\n4 small cornichons, thinly sliced<br \/>\n1 tbsp wholegrain mustard<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Pre-heat oven to 190C\/375F\/Gas 5<br \/>\nSimmer lentils, carrots in pan of water for 10 &#8211; 15 minutes until tender. Drain &amp; set aside.<br \/>\nMeanwhile heat 1\/2 tbs oil in a large, non-stick frying pan.<br \/>\nSlice cauliflower lengthways into 2.5cm steaks. ( sides will fall into florets)<br \/>\nFry over medium heat for 3 minutes each side.<br \/>\nPlace in roasting tin with florets and and pour over 1\/2 tbsp olive oil.<br \/>\nSeason with a little celtic or Himalyan salt and black pepper and sprinkle with vinegar.<br \/>\nRoast for 10 minutes approx.<br \/>\nIn a small bowl mix parsley, cornichons &amp; mustard with remaining tbspoon of oil and 2 tbsp vinegar.<br \/>\nServe cauliflower steaks on top of lentils with salsa verde poured over the top.<\/p>\n<h2><strong>The Raw Terminator Salad<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p><span style=\"font-size: x-small;\">( from Frederic Patenaude)<\/span><\/p>\n<p>This makes a very\u00a0 tasty filling raw detox salad<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>1 small cauliflower head, shredded<br \/>\n1 ripe avocado, mashed<br \/>\n15 sun-dried, black olives, pitted and chopped<br \/>\n1 organic red pepper, diced small<br \/>\n1\/2 organic lemon, juice of<br \/>\n1\/4 cup chopped parsley<br \/>\n1 clove garlic, crushed<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Shred the cauliflower in a food processor, or by hand. Cook, stirring, for 2 mins.<br \/>\nAdd the stock, tomato and butternut squash, and simmer uncovered for 15 mins.<br \/>\nAdd the cauliflower, cover and simmer for 10 mins, or until tender.<br \/>\nTo serve, stir in the fresh cilantro (coriander) and Yogurt if using.<br \/>\nServe hot.<br \/>\nYou can serve it for the rest of the family with naan bread and extra yogurt.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Good Substitute\u00a0For Starchy Foods<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Cauliflower can make a good substitute for starchy food like mashed potato or rice.<\/p>\n<p>For an alternative to mashed potato, simply steam some cauliflower until tender.\u00a0 Process, blend or mash until smooth. Mix in some extra virgin olive oil, celtic or Himalyan salt, black pepper and some herbs or chopped chives.
