By using a slow cooker you can go out for the day and have your detox diet food ready to eat when you return.<\/p>\n<p>Food cooked in a slow cooker is easily digested so you get the nutrients that are needed by the detox system.<\/p>\n<p>What&#8217;s more if there&#8217;s any left over you can freeze some in individual portions for eating at another time.<\/p>\n<p>The detox recipes that follow are gluten free, dairy free and sugar free. It&#8217;s best to use as many organic ingredients as possible to avoid chemical pollutants used in commercial farming. The whole family can eat them too. Try them!<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Bean &amp; Vegetable Detox Soup Recipe<br \/>\n<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>makes 4 servings approx<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>1 medium sweet potato, peeled and cut into 1&#8243; cubes<br \/>\n1 large or 2 small carrots, peeled and sliced<br \/>\n1\/2 stalk celery, diced<br \/>\n1 small yellow onion, diced<br \/>\n1 clove garlic, crushed and finely chopped<br \/>\n1 (15 ounce) can black beans, drained and rinsed (optional, navy beans)<br \/>\nCeltic or Himalayan salt to taste<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon freshly ground black pepper<br \/>\n1\/2 teaspoon turmeric<br \/>\n1 teaspoon paprika<br \/>\n1 bay leaf<br \/>\n2 cups organic vegetable broth<br \/>\n1 (14.5 oz.) can organic chopped tomatoes<br \/>\n2 cups organic baby spinach, loosely packed<br \/>\nOrganic extra-virgin olive oil or avocado oil for serving<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Place all ingredients, except spinach and olive oil, into your slow cooker.<br \/>\nCover and cook on low for 6 &#8211; 8 hours, or until the vegetables are tender.<br \/>\nStir in spinach, and continue cooking for about 5 minutes until wilted.<br \/>\nLadle into serving bowls and drizzle with a little olive or avocado oil.<br \/>\nEnjoy with a green leaf salad or some brown rice.<\/p>\n<p>For a thicker soup, after about 5 hours of cooking, remove 1 cup of mixture and mash, blend or process and return to the slow cooker, stir and continue to cook for the remainder of the time.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Indian Dhal<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Below is a tasty recipe for Indian Dhal using lentils. The word dhal, dal or daal originates from the Sanskrit &#8220;to split&#8221;, and refers to split pulses. Dhal is an everyday dish in India and can be made from dried split peas, beans, or lentils.<\/p>\n<p>The recipe below uses whole lentils. You sometimes see recipes for it using garbanzo beans (chickpeas). Dhal is healthy, delicious and fantastically cheap. You can cook a cold detox soup in a slow cooker too!<\/p>\n<p>Onions and leeks contain sulfur, an important substance for detox. It can bond with toxic substances like <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/detox\/how-to-use-food-for-natural-detox-of-mercury-from-your-body\/\">mercury<\/a><\/strong>, aluminum, barium and strontium helping remove them safely from the body.<\/p>\n<p>Sulfur makes cell membranes more pliable allowing nutrents to be transported into the cell and toxins out.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8105\" src=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/SlowCooker_Leek_Potato_Detox_soup.jpg\" alt=\"detox food\" width=\"240\" height=\"180\" \/>Cold Slow Cooked Vichyssoise<\/strong> (Leek and Potato Soup)<\/h3>\n<p>Serves 4 approx<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>200g onions, finely sliced<br \/>\n500g trimmed washed leeks, finely sliced<br \/>\n300g organic potatoes, scrubbed well and finely sliced<br \/>\n2 litres of hot organic vegetable or chicken stock<br \/>\nCeltic or Himalayan salt to taste<br \/>\nFreshly ground black pepper to taste<br \/>\nChopped parsley to garnish<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Put the prepared leeks, onions and potatoes into your slow cooker with 2 litres of boiling stock. Alternatively use 3 organic or vegetable stock cubes.<br \/>\nCover and switch the slow cooker to high. Once the vegetables are simmering (about 20 minutes) switch to low.<br \/>\nLeave to cook for about 2 1\/2hours.<br \/>\nWhen all vegetables are soft, blend with a stick blender and chill.<br \/>\nWhen ready to serve add salt and pepper to taste and sprinkle with chopped parsley.<\/p>\n<p>You don&#8217;t have to stick to vegetarian meals to detox. Paleo meals can detox you too.<\/p>\n<h3><strong>Slow Cooker Chicken and Vegetable Detox Soup<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p><em><strong>Ingredients<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Serves 4 &#8211; 5<\/p>\n<p>1 small onion, diced<br \/>\n2 stalks celery, sliced<br \/>\n2 carrots, thinly sliced<br \/>\n1 yellow bell pepper, diced<br \/>\n2 cloves garlic, finely chopped or minced<br \/>\n3 cups organic chicken broth<br \/>\n1 zucchini (courgette), quartered lengthways and chopped into small pieces<br \/>\n1 cup small cauliflower florets<br \/>\n1 large can diced organic tomatoes<br \/>\n2 boneless, skinless, organic chicken breasts<br \/>\nCeltic or Himalayan salt to taste<br \/>\nFreshly ground black pepper to taste<br \/>\n2 packed cups chopped fresh organic spinach<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Put all ingredients except spinach into your slow cooker.<br \/>\nCook on low for 8 hours.<br \/>\nRemove chicken and slice thinly, return to the pot, add spinach and stir.<br \/>\nReplace lid and cook for a further 5 minutes until spinach is wilted.<br \/>\nEat with some quinoa or brown rice and a <a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/detox\/winter-detox-salads-to-prevent-the-festive-season-pudge\/\">salad<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>You can omit the chicken if you prefer and use garbanzo beans (chickpeas) instead.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Breakfast Porridge<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>You can use your slow cooker for making a gluten free, dairy free, detox porridge too.<br \/>\nQuick and easy to prepare the night before your delicious breakfast will be ready waiting for you in the morning.<\/p>\n<h3><strong><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignright wp-image-8102 size-full\" src=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/06\/SlowCooker_Detox_Porridge_Blueberries_S.jpg\" alt=\"detox food\" width=\"240\" height=\"159\" \/>Slow Cooker Quinoa &amp; Millet Porridge<\/strong><\/h3>\n<p>Serves: 6<\/p>\n<p>250g quinoa*\u00a0 ( find out more about quinoa<strong> <a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/healthy-eating\/quinoa-detox-diet-superfood\/\">here<\/a><\/strong>)<br \/>\n250g millet*<br \/>\n1 liter water<br \/>\n1 liter unsweetened almond milk<br \/>\n1\/2 cup raisins<br \/>\n1 tsp ground ginger (optional)<br \/>\n1 cinnamon stick, broken in two<br \/>\n4 cardamom pods<br \/>\n4 star anise<\/p>\n<p>* Include some buckwheat groats as part of these measurements for a different flavor if you like.<\/p>\n<p><em><strong>Directions<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n<p>Rinse the quinoa and millet well with pure water and drain.<br \/>\nPut into slow cooker.<br \/>\nBring the water to the boil and pour this into the slow-cooker with almond milk and spices. Stir well.<br \/>\nPut on lid and set the slow-cooker to low and cook overnight (roughly 8-9 hours).<br \/>\nBy morning the porridge should be rich and creamy.<br \/>\nLadle into a bowl and add some berries or chopped fresh fruit of your choice, chopped nuts, chia seeds or freshly ground flax <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/cleansing\/the-secrets-of-using-healthy-seeds-on-a-detox-diet\/\">seeds<\/a><\/strong>.<br \/>\nIf you have to you can add a little stevia or raw honey to sweeten.<\/p>\n<p>Haven&#8217;t got a slow cooker?
