A few helpful suggestions to help you stay on track:<\/p>\n<p>1. Do your best to reframe your thoughts away <strong>from<\/strong> what you are not eating <strong>to<\/strong> those foods you are eating, knowing they are in alignment with your plan. If you recount for three days straight all the things you are taking OUT of your diet, you will crave them intensely. Keep a list in your mind of all the healing foods you are eating and what is your desired outcome \u2013 health and wellness!<\/p>\n<p>2. Do a personal investigation (call it a behavioral experiment!) as to what is REALLY going on. Answer questions like: Right now I want to overeat or binge or eat a box of sugar cookies because________.<\/p>\n<p>3. Step back from the moment of the emotional temptation and think \u201cwill I feel less lonely 10 or 15 minutes from now if I eat something rather than have a chat with my best friend?\u201d<br \/>\nSome foods are naturally better than others at helping to balance your moods.<\/p>\n<p><strong>Here are some great go-to foods when you need a pick-me-up:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>B12:<\/strong> shellfish, grass-fed beef, full-fat dairy, eggs.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Magnesium<\/strong>:\u00a0 leafy greens, soaked nuts and <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/cleansing\/healthy-seed-recipes-for-your-detox-diet\/\">seeds<\/a><\/strong>,\u00a0avocado, dark chocolate<\/li>\n<li><strong>Conjugated linoleic acid<\/strong>: pastured butter and cream, grass-fed lamb and beef<\/li>\n<li><strong>Tryptophan<\/strong>: wild game, turkey, duck, asparagus, seaweed<\/li>\n<li><strong>Lycopene<\/strong>: guava, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/cleansing\/its-summer-try-this-refreshing-watermelon-cleanse\/\">watermelon<\/a><\/strong>, tomato, papaya, <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/detox\/cabbage-soup-detox-diet-plan\/\">cabbage<\/a>,<\/strong> carrots<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong><a href=\"https:\/\/www.facebook.com\/Real-Food-Matters-134158876655589\/?hc_ref=PAGES_TIMELINE\">Real food, whole food<\/a><\/strong>\u00a0 is my mantra for nutrition &#8211; part of that includes how it nourishes us emotionally. Try implementing these steps to support that \u201ccomfort\u201d part of eating.<\/p>\n<ul>\n<li><strong>Involve all your senses<\/strong>. Don\u2019t just shovel it in.\u00a0 Present it beautifully on a plate.\u00a0 Enjoy it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Try to eat with others.<\/strong>\u00a0 Eating is as much social as it is physiological.\u00a0 Enjoying food in the context of company causes us to enjoy it more, eat slower, and consequently, eat less.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Sit down<\/strong>.\u00a0 Try following a guideline that you won\u2019t eat standing up \u2013 or (if alone) eating over the sink &#8211; or walking down the street.\u00a0 If you have a packed lunch or pick up to-go, take it somewhere (a park, a bench, home), sit down and savor it.<\/li>\n<li><strong>Cultivate gratefulness<\/strong>.\u00a0 This is easier to do when celebrating a promotion or buying a home than if having just lost a job or received bad news.\u00a0 Yet eating with gratefulness causes us to digest our food better, enjoy it more and to be more aware.\u00a0 Ways we can do this by pausing to light candles, say a prayer, slow down.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><strong>Final steps to help you manage and overcome emotional eating:<\/strong><\/p>\n<ul>\n<li>Breathe and slow down \u2013 and repeat\u2026<\/li>\n<li>Learn to recognize what emotional eating is for you.<\/li>\n<li>Be mentally prepared for non-food solutions to meet <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/detox\/control-emotional-stress-to-reap-the-full-benefits-of-detox-diet\">emotional<\/a><\/strong> hunger.<br \/>\nVisit a florist (or your garden!) and treat yourself to a favourite flower<br \/>\nDo some <strong><a href=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/detox\/how-to-reduce-tummy-fat-with-a-belly-fat-detox\/\">yoga<\/a><\/strong> stretches or go for a walk<br \/>\nRead your favourite poetry or affirmations<br \/>\nMake a call to your kids or grandkids<\/li>\n<li>Embrace the discovery how you are emotionally wired<\/li>\n<li>If you have questions or a curiosity to help you determine if you\u2019re an emotional eater the complete list is available through the contact page in the blog link below.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-8272\" src=\"https:\/\/thedetoxspecialist.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2016\/10\/KT-smallDRewToews-5429.jpg\" alt=\"detox, \" width=\"114\" height=\"75\" \/>Bio: Karen Toews is a Registered Holistic Nutritional Consultant.
