Our bodies are like our homes – they need to be maintained, nurtured and cleansed on a regular basis if they are to continue functioning properly. While we take great pains to groom ourselves externally, we fail to treat our insides the same way; add to this the fact that we eat unhealthy food, lead unhealthy lifestyles and live in unhealthy environments and you can see why toxins accumulate in our bodies. Regular detox measures do a world of good for your overall health, and if you’re looking for ways to detox at home safely and naturally, here’s how you can cook up a good detox foot bath.
- A common ingredient in all foot baths is Epsom salts – use one cup for every 60 pounds of body weight; when combined with warm water and a mixture of other ingredients, it opens up pores, eases aches and pains, and removes the toxins from your body.
- Add two tablespoons of ginger mixed with a cup of water for a quick yet effective detox foot bath.
- Use baking soda if you want to negate the effects of radiation after an X-ray or any other diagnostic procedure or form of therapy that involves radiation.
- Unopened tea bags make great additions to your foot detox bath.
- Use a small amount of mustard powder and Cayenne powder to raise core body temperature.
- Use one to two tablespoons of an essential oil if your skin is basically dry.
- Apple cider vinegar helps reduce body acidity when added to your detox foot bath – use two to three cups per soak.
- For an antibacterial and anti-oxidizing foot bath, use honey, vanilla extract and sweet almond oil with warm water and liquid soap. If you don’t have vanilla extract and sweet almond oil at home, use just the honey.
Detox foot baths can be enjoyed every few days, or even everyday if you spend all day on your feet and need to unwind – they rejuvenate not just your body, but also relax your mind. However, if you have a medical condition like high blood pressure, diabetes, heart disease, kidney disease or are pregnant, check with your doctor if detox foot baths are safe; also ensure that you drink enough water to avoid dehydration because these concoctions make you sweat. If you’re a beginner, don’t soak in these solutions for longer than 15 minutes.
