What is one thing you can do to start your day off refreshed and energized for the long haul?
The answer may surprise you. No, it is not drinking a giant cup of coffee and hopping into a cold shower–though there is nothing wrong with that.
However, if you really what to invigorate your system and amplify your health, you need to start with a detox drink right when you wake up in the morning.
Detoxing water and beverages are essentially health tonics. Depending on what the water is infused with, the overall influence changes.
That said, all detox drinks can do the following:
- Purifies the colon and the lymph nodes
- Aids in nutrient absorption
- Improves digestion
- May lower cholesterol and triglyceride levels
- Combats high blood pressure
- Helps break down fats in the body
- Detoxifies and nourishes the skin
- Strengthens the immune system
- Improves metabolism
- Promotes healthy eliminations
- Restores the acid and alkaline balance in your body, relieving any issues affixed to this issue.
Sounds too good to be true, right? Rest assured, drinking enough water, even without added ingredients, has amazing benefits.
In fact, A study published in 2011 by the Journal of Alternative and Complementary Medicine evaluated the use of medical detoxification treatments by certified naturopathic doctors in the USA.
Just so you know that this is no myth, I have outlined a methods how to use it and included some recipes to get you started.
How to Use Detox Water
Though there is no restriction to how you use your detox water, one bit of information remains true: that you need to drink your first glass in the morning upon waking. Before doing anything else, aside from going to the bathroom, you need a shot of detox water.
After that, you can drink about 6-8 glasses throughout the day to maintain an optimal health level.
Again, even a simple glass of water can detoxify the body. But it’s when you add other infusions or ingredients that the real benefits shine through.
Recipes for a Weekly Cleanse
Here are a few recipes to get you through a week of detoxification.
You can simply cycle through them or even better; mix and match!
1. Apple Cider, Lemon, and Cayenne Pepper Detox
Because this is quite tart, you can add a teaspoon of raw honey to it to sweeten it up some. Overtime, you will notice the bite less and less or may even enjoy it. Apple cider vinegar is a veritable super liquid, full of minerals and enzymes that improve digestion, wash the body of toxins, and smooths the skin.
Ingredients:
- 12 ounces of warm water. Always use warm water, never hot, because the high temperatures will kill the enzymes and nullify the vitamins.
- Juice from half a lemon
- 2 tablespoons of organic apple cider vinegar
- Dash of cayenne pepper
- [optional] 1 teaspoon of raw honey
Stir well to blend thoroughly. Since this is acidic, drink it through a straw to avoid wearing the enamel away from your teeth and gums. After drinking, wait 10-15 minutes before consuming anything else. Your body will need time to absorb the nutrients from the water.
2. Strawberry-Melon Infused Detox Water
Do you want younger, softer looking skin? Then this is the detox water for you. The red fruits in this drink are rich in vitamins, salicylic acid, and phytonutrients that combat inflammation and breakouts.
Ingredients:
- 1 cup strawberries
- 2 cups cubed watermelon
- Sprigs of fresh rosemary
- A dash of coarse Himalayan salt
- Filtered water
Muddle together the strawberries, watermelon, rosemary, and salt. Add to the pitcher filled halfway with filtered water. Blend well then let sit in the refrigerator for a few hours before enjoying.
3. Cinnamon Apple Detox
Cinnamon is wonderful for stabilizing blood glucose and upping your metabolism without adding any calories. By infusing this with apple, you get a crisp flavor that is perfect for beating summertime heat.
Ingredients:
- 1 gallon pitcher filled halfway with fresh water
- 1 to 2 thinly sliced or diced apples
- 2-4 cinnamon sticks, for varying depth of flavor
- Ice to fill the second half of the pitcher.
Simply add the ingredients as listed then let it brew in the refrigerator for a couple of hours before serving. The longer the apple and cinnamon can infuse into the water, the more delicious the flavor.
