The main purpose of detoxing is to eliminate toxins, chemicals and pollutants that enter your body by way of food, stimulants and your environment. According to an article by Live Strong, removing these unwanted particles can help ward off illnesses and disease, while also transferring the energy your body would have used for digestion toward healing the effects caused by these pollutants instead.
One of the most important things to note about detox dieting is that you should be in good health before beginning the process. This doesn’t mean you should go out right now and purchase as many medicines as possible to achieve a satisfactory state of health, but instead choose natural treatment methods like the ones discussed in a recent article by Speedy Cash. Once you’ve achieved an ideal state of health, it’s time to move on to initiating your detox diet without going over your budget. Below are a few tips to accomplish this:
1. Buy ingredients beforehand
Having all of your ingredients on hand makes your detox much more convenient, which saves time and ensures consistency. Most of the ingredients you purchase will be perishable items, which means you’ll have to apply proper storage methods if you intend to have them for a long time. For example, some fruits may need to be frozen to prevent them from going bad over a long period of time. Although this practice will save you money, it’s important to note that freezing your ingredients will mean they are no longer fresh. However, frozen fruits can often contain more nutrients than fresh fruits, which is beneficial to your diet.
2. Shop at budget-friendly stores
Fresh fruits, vegetables and other health foods are relatively inexpensive when compared to less healthy processed foods. However, there are ways you can cut down even further on these costs by shopping for produce at budget-friendly stores like Wal-Mart and Target. Unlike high-end health food stores like Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s, these stores offer discounted fresh produce and generic brands of frozen produce to fit your budget without compromising your nutrition needs.
3. Consider famer’s markets
A recent article by Komo News reported that produce from farmer’s markets are often less expensive than the produce found at grocery stores. Despite the fact that farmer’s market produce is often organic and of exceptionally high quality, students at Seattle University found that most vegetables sold at the University District Farmers Market were lower (or at the very least, comparable) to the prices listed at their grocery store counterparts.
4. Buy in bulk
It’s a known fact that buying in bulk can help you save money on groceries, but the studies and articles that report these savings opportunities often leave you to sort through the details on your own. (http://www.examiner.com/article/save-money-grocery-shopping-by-buying-bulk) In reality, buying in bulk requires more than just buying bigger bags of your favorite foods. According to eHow contributor Moira Clune, you should first assess your storage space to ensure that all of your items can be stored under proper conditions. Following this step, you should purchase the foods you need, practice your canning, drying and freezing skills, and purchase quality containers to effectively store your food items.
If you’re new to the concept of detoxing, you may have only heard about it from celebrities or friends who advocate the process. Although this might imply that the process is expensive and extravagant, it is actually affordable when you take important steps to cut costs. What’s more, the payback of better health can save you a great deal of money on doctor visits and medications in the future. All in all, a sound state of health is one benefit that is truly priceless.

Hello,
Thanks a lot for writing this post. This is a boon for fitness freaks like me. Generally, many calorie conscious people are very strict with their diets and at times spend a lot of money in order to get rid of excess fat. Detox given here will cleanse the body and also help a weight loss program without hurting your wallet.

I find that prices at the farmer’s markets are sometimes less and sometimes more than at the grocery store (though I favor buying at the farmer’s market for a lot of reasons). Costco has more organic produce than you might expect, at a very reasonable price. I wouldn’t lump Whole Foods and Trader Joe’s together as expensive. Trader Joe’s prices are much lower, I really like their prices on produce.

Hi Mary,
I find that it pays to check prices all the time. The supermarkets have such buying power that they can be cheaper but as you say there can be advantages of buying at farmer’s markets.
As I am in the UK I am not familiar with Trader Joe’s but we do have a Whole Foods store in London.
Thanks for dropping by and taking the time to comment.
Good health

Excellent tips! Most people want to eat fresh, healthy food but there’s a misconception that it has to be expensive to do so. Farmers Markets are so great – all of that locally grown produce is so good for you! – and first-timers are always surprised by how inexpensive the produce is.
