Green Tea Detox: Can You Really Detox With Green Tea?

Green Tea Detox I have recently been asked about green tea detox. A lot is written about detox with green tea but most articles simply say that green tea can help you eliminate body toxins but don’t explain how. In this article I am going to explain a little more about how green tea can be a useful addition to your detox diet.

It’s known that certain foods can help detox your body as scientists have discovered that certain substances in food help to support the detox process. But what is it about green tea that will do this?

Health Benefits of Green Tea

There is no doubt that green tea has numerous health benefits. It contains large amounts of antioxidants. In fact green tea is reputed to be one of the most powerful antioxidants known.

Green tea is made from unfermented leaves of the Camellia sinensis plant while black tea has been through a fermented process which substantially lowers the antioxidant content. Antioxidants are substances that fight free radicals, those damaging that form in our bodies as a result of normal everyday metabolism, exposure to environmental toxins in air, food and water and as a side effect of detoxification.

Free radicals

Yes, the detox process does result in the formation of free radicals so it is important to get enough antioxidants in your diet to combat them. Scientists believe that free radicals contribute to the aging process as well as the development of a number of health problems such as heart disease and cancer. Your health relies on your ability to defend yourself agaist the damaging effects of free radicals.

So, green tea being full of potent antioxidants, known as polyphenols, can help to neutralize or detox free radicals. Drinking green tea as part of your detox diet is a way of adding more antioxidants.

Matcha Green Tea

Matcha tea is very powerful because it is made from the whole leaf. One cup of Matcha tea equals no less than 10 cups of green tea.

When you brew a cup of any tea you are only extracing some of the benefits from the leaves. Many nutrients are left behind in the actual leaf. With Matcha tea you get the whole stoneground tea leaves. It’s full of a variety of vitamins, minerals, antioxidants, and amino acids that are needed for detox.

Added to that is the fact that the concentration of EGCG, the compound in green tea that burns fat and actually stops it from forming, is 137 times greater in matcha than your ordinary tea bag!

Chlorophyll the great detoxifier

Matcha tea is rich in chlorophyll one of Nature’s potent detoxifiers. Results os studies by Dr Alvin Sgelman have shown that chlorophyll can help neutralize the toxic substances that alter genes and can cause cancer (mutagens)

Chlorophyll can detox heavy metals. The adhesive cellulose in its cell wall sticks to the metal atoms so they’re carried out as waste. Chlorophyll carries oxygen around the body improving xygenation and helps cleanse the bod

Clorophyll is rich in magnesium, a mineral that is lacking in many people these days due to food processng . Magnesium is important for the production of energy in cells and one of the minerals needed for the detox process.

You can make some delicious detox smoothies with Matcha tea.

Try this one:

Blueberry Punch

1 tsp matcha green tea
1/2 cup almond or rice milk
1 cup baby spinach leaves
1/2 peach, sliced
1/2 cup blueberries

Put all ingredients into a strong blended and blend until very smooth.

To do a green tea detox simply follow the rules of a normal detox diet. Avoid all processed foods, junk food, all food with additives, sugar and foods containing it, fatty foods, red meat, regular tea and coffee, sodas and diet drinks. Eat more fresh fruit and vegetables either raw in salads or cooked, whole grains, beans and lentils. Drink pure water, vegetable juices, green smoothies, and at least 3 cups of green tea a day.

  4. Matcha is high in antioxidant. Each cup of matcha contains antioxidant equivalent to about 10 cups of green tea. It is great for people who are looking for natural energy supply too as it does not cause jitteriness like coffee.

I like Zendori Matcha which I got it from Amazon. It is an authentic matcha from Japan, not from China.
