“Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food” — Hippocrates, reputed to be the father of medicine, was said to believe and argue that disease was not a punishment inflicted by the gods but rather the product of environmental factors, diet, and living habits. How true that has proved to be!
Do you realize that fruits and vegetables are the most powerful medicine around? Nothing works better to detox your body, cure illness, increase vitality, and improve mental clarity than fruit and veg.
It seems all too easy, but your mom and grandma were right. You need to eat your fruits and veggies – the more the better.
Do you get your 7 – 13 cups of Fruit & Veg a Day?
It’s sad to say, but most people do not get enough fruit and veggies in their diet. Scientists are now saying that you need at least 7 to 13 cups of fruits and vegetables per day. Sadly, most people don’t even meet the old guidelines of “five a day.”
Hard to believe but some school children can’t even identify fruits and vegetables when asked to. And remember, the guidelines suggest “at least” this amount. But, more is better.
A multitude of studies have revealed that eating more fruit and veg as a part of a truly healthy diet helps to protect your body against obesity, heart disease, type 2 diabetes and even cancer.
Part of this is due to the fact that the nutrients in fruit and vegetables help to support the detox system and detox damaging toxic chemicals. In people who have imbalanced or slow detoxification pathways they can help rev them up.
More is better
Independent studies such as the one done in the documentary: “Sick, Fat & Nearly Dead” have shown time and again that when it comes to the detox and healing properties of fruits and vegetables, more is better.
Scholarly studies show that you literally cannot eat too many raw fruits and vegetables. You cannot get fat from eating fruits and vegetables. Your body needs the phytochemicals, antioxidants, vitamins, minerals, carbohydrates, and protein found in fruits and vegetables, which are with few exceptions, low in fat and calories.
The thing is, many of these types of studies are hidden from you by the food and drug industry who stand to lose a lot if everyone started eating their fruits and veggies, realizing that more is better.
The Power Of Fruit & Veg
A great book to read about the power of fruits and vegetables is The China Study by T. Colin Campbell, PhD and Thomas M. Campbell II MD.
By eating more fruits and vegetables you’ll detox, lose weight, get rid of food cravings, clear up skin problems, think clearer, and be able to even overcome addictions. More importantly you can literally make yourself heart attack proof if you follow a mostly plant based diet.
I saw a really powerful photograph recently going around Facebook. It had a picture of a man stuffing nutritionally devoid food into his mouth. It looked like some kind of fried potatoes, steak, and white bread.
You could see the shadow behind him of what it looked like when he held that fork full of processed food to his mouth. It looked like he was holding a gun to his head.
Honestly, if you continue eating the SAD you are basically killing yourself. By adding more fruits and vegetables into your diet, eating more plant based food, whether it’s in the form of super powerful detox juices, smoothies, a huge mixed salad, or lightly cooked vegetables you’ll improve your health exponentially.
Improve your health
People who eat more fruits and veggies get fewer colds, less flu, less cancer, suffer from fewer allergies, and are often able to think better.
When I used to go to seminars, to keep my brain functioning and my mind awake, I drank fresh vegetable juices and ate a lot of bananas instead of drinking coffee or coke and eating candy like many others did. I was able to stay much more alert and energetic than many of my peers.
I promise you, if you replace all your processed foods and sweet junk foods with fresh fruit and veggie’s — whether juiced or not, you will see a huge improvement in your health and mental clarity.
It is unlikely to happen overnight, but most people see a dramatic result within just 14 days. If you find that you cannot eat the recommended 7 to 13 cups of fruit and vegetables a day for some reason, definitely juice them or blend them into a smoothie to ensure that you get at least that minimum amount into your body every single day.
Do you eat at least 5 portions a day? Leave me your answer in the comments.

I am so glad i landed at this wonderful lovely and informative place, Of course of i fully agree with you that these veg and fruit juices are indeed a great food item to be taken regularly, but my greatest fear is that these fruits and vegetables we receive in the market carry lots and lots os pesticides: 🙁
What will be the remedies for this 🙂
Thanks for sharing this. Will come again to read more. Keep informed 🙂

You are quite right Philip. Many fruit and vegetaables do have pesticide residues. One way to avoid this is of course to buy organic produce but this can be expensive and a full range is not always freely available. It’s important to try to avoid the foods that are the most sprayed and you can find these on EWG’s Shopper’s Guide to Pesticides in Produce. http://www.ewg.org/foodnews/ The other thing you can do is to detox regularly.
Thanks for stopping by and taking the time to comment.
Good health.
